Component Parts

3D parts can be modelled in different ways to mimic their manufacturing process, starting with a blank and "machining" out the details, or fabricating the part by combining components together.  So, in addition to the visual advantages of 3D models over 2D drawings, it is also possible to determine other useful properties, such as component mass and raw material requirements.
